High school cheerleaders spreading awareness and raising funds, one flock at a time.
In 2019, Kristen McQuillan—then president of the Westmont Hilltop Cheer Boosters—wanted to find a way for her cheerleaders to give back to the community. That October, the squad launched a simple but powerful idea: “flocking” yards with pink flamingos to raise money in the fight against breast cancer.
What started with one cheerleading team quickly caught on. By the next year, Kristen reached out to other schools, and the flamingos began popping up all across Cambria County.
Since then, squads from Bishop McCort, Richland, Greater Johnstown, Forest Hills, Penn Cambria, Northern Cambria, and Conemaugh Valley have joined the movement. Together, these students have raised more than $31,000 through flockings and pink out games—spreading awareness, community spirit, and hope with every yard they visit.
