Once again, it is time to begin the planning process for the 15th Annual
Taunia Oechslin Girls Night Out®. The event raises money for the
Joyce Murtha Breast Care Center at the Chan Soon-Shiong Medical Center at
Windber. All proceeds are used towards increasing breast cancer awareness and
ensuring “cutting edge” breast care for every woman in our community.
In 2007, Girls Night Out began as a small “pay it forward” project by
Taunia Oechslin, a breast cancer fighter who was diagnosed at 36 years old
and succumbed to the disease on April 9, 2009 at the age of 39. It was her
goal that every woman is educated about breast cancer, understands the value
of early detection, and receives proper treatment.
To date Taunia Oechslin Girls Night Out® has raised over $1.1 million for the Joyce Murtha Breast Care Center at the Chan Soon-Shiong Medical Center at Windber and is the largest dinner event in Johnstown with over 820 women in attendance.
We all know women who have been affected by this terrible disease and have seen the impact this disease has on those stricken and on their families. Please mark your calendar for
April 2023 (DATE TBA) for what promises to be another fun-filled, life-saving event to support the Joyce Murtha Breast Care Center at the Chan Soon-Shiong Medical Center in Windber.
The event has grown by leaps and bounds each year in both attendance and dollars, but we can’t do it without you! We need your continuing support to ensure the 15th Annual event is an even bigger success.
Everyone can help by choosing one of the following:

Thank you,
Taunia Oechslin Girls Night Out Committee Member
As responsible citizens of the Taunia Oechslin Girls Night Out Foundation we are absolutely committed to the overall health and welfare of our community, particularly the 820 women who attend this incredibly special event. Therefore we announce the cancellation of the Taunia Oechslin Girls Night Out until Tuesday, April 12, 2022.
The CDC guidance is very clear and we support this organization’s scientifically based recommendations of cancelling events over 50 attendees. No one should be placed at risk for COVID-19 even for an event as extraordinary as Taunia Oechslin Girls Night Out.
The ongoing mission of the Taunia Oechslin Girls Night Out Foundation is increasing breast cancer awareness and ensuring “cutting edge” breast care for every woman in our community. We all know women who have be affected by this terrible disease and have seen the impact this disease has on those stricken and on their families. We encourage you to schedule your annual mammogram and do regular self- breast exams.
Please mark your calendar for Tuesday, April 12, 2022, at the Pasquerilla Conference Center (Downtown Johnstown) for what promises to be another fun-filled, life-saving event to support the Joyce Murtha Breast Care Center at the Chan Soon-Shiong Medical Center in Windber.
However, anyone who has made a donation to the 2021 event, will be contacted by a committee member to discuss whether you would like to apply a credit for next year, receive a refund or make a donation for this year.
Our thoughts and prayers go out to all those affected by the coronavirus.
Sincerely,
Taunia Oechslin Girls Night Out® Foundation
